Needham Creative Arts Council

With the generous support of the NEF, the Needham Creative Arts Council is delighted to be bringing Boston Dance Ensemble ‘OrigiNation’ to Needham in early 2008. All elementary students will attend the highly participatory workshop ‘From African Dance to Hip Hop’, which will put these two dance genres in a historical and social perspective, as well as let the students try out both styles themselves. Workshops are scheduled for January 3rd – January 11th, 2008. As a festive finale, the NCAC has arranged for a dance performance by OrigiNation on Friday, January 11th, 7 pm, at the Pollard Middle School (ticket price $7). This show, entitled ‘Encore’, will showcase a variety of dance styles and dancers from OrigiNation’s Boston studios, and will be a great family event. Ticket flyers will go home with all elementary students, and a ticket order form can also be found by clicking here.

Please come enjoy and support the arts. Everyone is welcome.

The Needham Creative Arts Council (NCAC) strives to enrich arts experiences of school children in Needham with the financial support of the PTCs, grants and an annual a cappella concert. Every year the NCAC sponsors one or two programs for all Needham elementary schools. These programs are also adapted to middle and high school audiences when appropriate. The focus of programming changes from year to year to ensure that all children have a uniform exposure to a broad sample of talented artists.

In January 2007, all elementary students in Needham experienced the Boston Ballet as they presented Classical Moves. This program is an introduction to ballet, classical music and their important relationship. Interactive demonstrations look inside the creative process and helped students understand ballet as a distinctive art form and allowed the students to get up-close and personal with terrific ballet artists.

A Cappella Go 2007 is our 8th annual all-vocal evening, featuring groups with NHS graduates and singing groups of current NHS students each year. This year’s concert is scheduled for November 10th at 7:30 pm at the Pollard Middle School. The concert is our annual fundraiser. We thank you for supporting the arts. NCAC is pleased to bring alumni back to town to showcase their musical talents. We are interested in hearing about any a cappella groups with NHS alumni so we can contact them for future concerts.
