The Needham Concert Society

The Needham Concert Society was founded twenty-seven years ago by William Gibson, a talented and generous Needham resident and Boston Symphony Orchestra member. He strove to present excellent live performances to Needham audiences. NCS presents talented ensembles and soloists from the Boston area, including members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

The Concert Society has presented many concerts at the First Baptist Church of Needham as well as other churches and schools in Needham. Every year four programs are presented, including an annual Piano Festival. On March 29 and 30, 2008, NCS will hold its tenth annual Piano Festival at the beautiful new Needham Free Public Library.

The Needham Piano Festival is a two day celebration of solo and ensemble music featuring performances by student and professional pianists. Student recitals take place on Saturday, March 29, when Needham’s young musicians have the opportunity to play in a public concert. On Sunday, March 30, the featured performers are Needham resident pianists Soomi Lee and Steve Sussman in a shared recital. Selections include music by Chopin, Debussy, Falla, Rachmaninoff and Scarlatti, as well as jazz interpretations from the “Great American Songbook”. The concerts are free and open to the public.

The Concert Society is managed by a Board of Directors who share the responsibilities of programming, publicity and production logistics. If you would like to be notified of future Needham Concert Society events, learn more about volunteer opportunities, or participate on the Board of Directors, please contact Judy Currie at HYPERLINK jac600@rcn.com or David Tierney at HYPERLINK d.tierney@rivers.org.

Piano students can register for the Piano Festival by submitting the Piano Festival registration form by March 14. The teacher’s permission is the only requirement.

Here is the NCS Piano Festival schedule, 2008:
